Fears are Foul

I love the quote,

“The remarkable thing about fearing God is that when you fear God, you fear nothing else, whereas if you do not fear God, you fear everything else.” — Oswald Chambers

It reminds me that with God, there is nothing that we should fear. It also reminds me that if I do fear many things while I claim to have God in my heart I better take some time to really ponder that and determine if that is indeed the case.

I’m not afraid of much and I never really have been.

Anytime someone has suggested something that appears to be just a little bit risky, I have thought about it for a moment — as the calculated person that I am — and usually decided it’s a good idea to proceed.

Fears keep us up at night.

If we spend hours and hours thinking about certain things, even if it’s not worrying… I would say that is fear.

Fear is defined as, “an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain or a threat.”

Carry on… we must always carry on.

Ironically, I had started writing this article and then saw that Andy Frisella, one of my favorite people to follow, shared a recent podcast episode of his. This episode was all about… overcoming fear (linked here).

It was great to hear and something that stuck with me was sticking to the basics.

No matter where we are in life or what we are doing, the basics matter the most.

The New England Patriots are historically great and one of the biggest things that they do is stick to the basics. They master the fundamentals. As their saying goes, “Do your job.”

People are afraid of a lot of different things but there are some common fears that a handful of people share.

Many people in life are afraid of the same things and often let themselves be held back by certain things.

“To conquer fear is the beginning of wisdom.” — Bertrand Russell

Many reports show that the most common fear is the fear of death or something that could cause death like heights, spiders, or snakes.

I don’t share those same fears. I might be uncomfortable around snakes or spiders but I know that death is not the end for me because God is in control.

People have survived tragic accidents and people have died suddenly.

Death is not something that we always have control over.

The biggest thing I believe is that while we may be frightened in situations, and probably many many situations… God is with us if we trust in Him.

If His will is done and not our own, He will do all things for us.

“Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind.” — Psalm 107:8

This same verse is repeated 4 times in Psalm 107. Verse 8, 15, 21, and 31 all say the same thing after different examples. God is always there. When everything around us crumbles and changes, God never does; we have nothing to fear.

“The remarkable thing about fearing God is that when you fear God, you fear nothing else, whereas if you do not fear God, you fear everything else.” — Oswald Chambers
