Positivity in Perspective

It’s tough to do anything productive when absorbed by an emotion that is restrictive and prohibitive.

People laugh at me.

They laugh at you too.

I was talking to a friend the other day, and they go, “why are you always smiling?”

Because I’m alive, man, there’s nothing to NOT be positive about.

I honestly don’t care how bad the situation is.

When you’ve been at the bottom & didn’t know if you’d have another day, EVERY day is an incredible blessing.

“I avoid negativity — but I’m always realistic. I don’t mask the truth and I NEVER undervalue the power of God.” — Harrison Wendland

Feeling Pain

There is nothing wrong with feeling pain, sadness, hurt, anger, frustration, etc.

IF only for a moment. When the time passes and the situation is absorbed, don’t dwell. The habit of dwelling is what causes many people to really run into issues down the road.

It’s tough to do anything productive when absorbed by an emotion that is restrictive and prohibitive.

I’d say that emotions such as sadness, anger, frustration, and stress are typically prohibitive.

In those times, most people do not have an outlook that encourages growth or opportunity.

If you’re constructing a building and you’re currently on the fourth floor, when sad you may believe that’s the capacity and that is the full building.

However, when you’re energized, you may see the building’s potential to reach 14 floors.

We often do the same thing with ourselves. We might just be limiting our capacity. Our potential is rarely seen when we are exhausted and depressed. More often than not we take on a perspective of scarcity rather than a mindset of abundance.

This is important to be aware of because it is so so easy to become drowned out by our negative emotions.

When the rain comes

We’ll have days where we intend to go to the gym in the morning before work, don’t wake up until after 7:00 am and have to miss the workout.

That usually puts a damper on things for me.

I always hold myself to a high standard when it comes to time and I want to be sure that when I say I’m going to wake up, I’m awake. When I say I’m going to be there, I’m there.

The gym is the place where I begin my day and start off with some success for the day.

I like to challenge myself there and knock off a hard win right way.

When I miss the gym I often feel like I’m losing.

I feel like I’m behind the 8 ball.

That’s a tough thing to “snap out of” because it’s natural.

“Lose an hour in the morning, and you will spend all day looking for it.” — Richard Whately

It’s all in the perspective though — no matter what.

We can only control what we can control.

I could make it to the gym but if I sleep later and miss it — what happens?

Not a ton… unless I let a ton happen.

The key point in my mind here is that we must be proactive.

If we are only reactive — we’ll lose.

I don’t care how you define losing or winning in this context because it is frankly irrelevant.

If you’re only reactive and let your emotions rule, here’s what’s going to happen. You’ll regularly feel:

— depressed
— powerless
— weak
— failure

Those types of things are not desired and if they are, I challenge you to dive deeper because you’ll see that they really are not desired.

So I go into every single situation, no matter what it is, believing that I can create an opportunity.

No matter what happens, there’s an opportunity.

God can make anything for good.

ANYTHING.

No matter what happens, God can make it for good.

Joseph’s brother sold him into slavery but the Lord granted him favor in the eyes of the Egyptian Pharaoh and Joseph had great power bestowed upon him. Eventually, Joseph was in a position to support his family because Egypt prepared for the famine.

“You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.” — Genesis 50:20 NIV

But… if we don’t believe that God can change our situation — why would He change our situation?

Say you’re falsely accused of a crime that you didn’t commit. If you don’t believe that God can change your situation, maybe you’ll learn more if He doesn’t change it.

Say you’re fired from a job you didn’t like anyway. If you don’t believe that God has something better for you, it will be quite hard to find that better alternative.

“The trouble with opportunity is, it never announces when it comes. It’s only after it’s gone, you’d realize that you missed it.” — Uday Kotak

No matter what happens, it can become something good for us.

We must prepare for the good, prepare for the bad, and expect the best.

You cannot reap without first sowing. Sow your thoughts, plant your seed, work your fields, and anticipate harvest. Just remember that the seeds you planted may not grow what you expect them to, God’s will is always greater than our own.

“Unless God has raised you up for this very thing, you will be worn out by the opposition of men and devils, but if God be for you, who can be against you?” — John Wesley
