Use The Power of Words & Positivity
If you are not incredibly tired yet say that you are “tired” your subconscious will interpret that as tired and move into energy preservation mode. That’s only logical, isn’t it?
Are you angry or are you a bit peeved?
Daymond John produced a great motivational album recently.
One of the songs on there is called The Power of Words
He speaks about the words that he uses every day and the value that they have for him.
Words like love, generous, peace, blessed, successful.
What words do you speak every day?
Seriously. Take a moment and do a little self-assessment. What are the most common words that you speak?
Maybe some of them are:
Alright
Busy
Good
Tired
Anxious
Hungry
Are those productive words?
They could be.
But what does your subconscious think?
Numerous studies have shown that your subconscious mind is not only working while you are sleeping and while you are resting — but also that your subconscious mind has no filter and accepts whatever messages it hears as TRUTH.
If you are not incredibly tired yet say that you are “tired” your subconscious will interpret that as tired and move into energy preservation mode. That’s only logical, isn’t it?
Back to the words that you have found that you use most often.
Are they the best words that you could use?
Or are they alternatives or words that could transform your attitude and life in a greater way?
Tony Robbins expands upon this greatly in his book, “Awaken the Giant Within”
For example, rather than saying that you are busy or overwhelmed…
Say things like:
“in demand”
“maximized”
“I have many opportunities”
It really comes down to what you expect.
“You don’t believe what you see, you see what you already believe.” — Brian Tracy
Do you believe that you are busy?
or
Do you believe that you have a ton of opportunities?
Closed mouths don’t get fed!
Closed fists can’t receive anything either.
Now there are many different reasons people may say things like that, but here’s my reason.
God wants us to fulfill our purpose in these lives. He has created each and every one of us for a divine purpose, we need to seek God.
“If you seek answers you won’t find them, but if you seek God, the answers will find you.” — Mark Batterson
So again, what words do you use every day?
Are you good? Great? Superb? Splendid? Excellent? Spectacular?
“An effective selection of words to describe the experience of our lives can heighten our most empowering emotions. A poor selection of words can devastate us just as surely and just as swiftly. Most of us make unconscious choice in the words that we use; we sleepwalk our way through the maze of possibilities available to us. Realize now the power that your words command if you simply choose them wisely.” — Tony Robbins
We are given free will in this world. What does that mean to you?
It means that life really is 10% what happens to us and 90% how we respond to it.
God entrusts every human with the ability to respond to any situation in the way that they desire… but… let’s be real, God has provided VERY clear instructions for this life and how we are to live.
Citizens of Society? or Citizens of God’s Kingdom?
Let’s just touch on a few things that society today may not be doing but what God has called for His people to do.
“Love your neighbor as yourself.”
What does that mean to you?
It means that when your neighbor’s dog poops in your yard you don’t go over and yell at them. You clean it up, speak love, and treat them as you would treat yourself (obviously this requires that you love yourself).
“But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.”
What does this mean to you?
It means that when a coworker takes credit for the work that you did 90% of, you love them anyway and you congratulate them to their face and pray in solidarity for them. You do not attack them but rather remember who your real enemy is (the enemy comes to kill, steal, and destroy).
“Thou shalt have no other gods before me.”
What does this mean to you?
It means that God is first, it means that we are second. When you’re too tired, or too busy, or too stressed to pray or to talk to God or to seek Him, it means that is not true. Whose world is this anyway? It’s not yours! It’s certainly not mine!! It’s God’s. So don’t you think that if you’re too tired, God already knows? Trust in Him and SEEK Him.
Let’s get back to the power of words.
When your neighbor’s dog poops on your yard, do you tell them that their actions are infuriating?
Why not say that you’re a bit dinged, slightly bothered, mildly surprised?
WOW. Can you imagine how much better of an interaction that you would have with them?!
Speak LOVE.
If a coworker takes credit for work that you did, do you rat that out to your superior and take credit and claim that they must be jealous and envious because you’re better?
Why not remind them, “that is why we labor and strive, because we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all people, and especially of those who believe.” — 1 Timothy 4:10 NIV.
Speak TRUTH.
When you’re too tired and tell your accountability partners that you are too busy to spend time in the Word or praying with God, are they wrong to call you selfish?
Why not remind yourself of Proverbs 5:23 which says, “For lack of discipline they will die, led astray by their own great folly.”
Speak WISDOM.
The devil is incredibly powerful.
We need DISCERNMENT.
Don’t you understand that the devil can provide you with riches?
Don’t you know that the devil can do “miracles”? (You can call a demon out of someone by calling on the devil).
Don’t you realize that the devil only needs a FOOTHOLD?
“In your anger do not sin.” Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold.” — Ephesians 4:26–27 NIV
“People underestimate the Devil and think he’s locked away in hell, he’s NOT. He roams the earth with his kingdom of darkness.” — Natalie Favia
We must use vocabulary that is God-honoring.
You never know who is watching or who is listening.
Never abandon God’s truth for the ways of the world — it’s a fallen world.
“Our citizenship is in heaven, we carry HIS kingdom into this culture.” — Todd Mullins
Positively True
The truth is one thing and some people know it — but many don’t.
But what about the facts? MANY people know the facts. People get “canceled.”
Is that right? Maybe.
But what if it’s not.
Who we are we to say?
“Woe to those who call evil good
and good evil,
who put darkness for light
and light for darkness,
who put bitter for sweet
and sweet for bitter.” — Isaiah 5:20 NIV
“As Christians, we will focus on the truth, not the facts.” — Todd Mullins
Closing Call to Action
3 actionable items for you in the next week:
1. Be conscious of the words that you use — they could be easily misinterpreted (angry vs. a bit peeved are MAJORLY different).
2. Seek the deeper level of other people’s messages — just because they called you a failure doesn’t mean they truly believe that (ask for clarification, say something like, “What I think you’re trying to say is that I made a misjudgment and could have done better in this situation?” (they are likely not conscious of the words they use).
3. Dive into the Word of God, KNOW the Word so you know the TRUTH — anyone can twist anything to fit their own agenda (always revert back and check everything against the infallible Word of God).
“As water reflects the face, so one’s life reflects the heart.” — Proverbs 27:19 NIV
“Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.” — John 15:4 NIV
